Dr Cadence Kaumoana holds a Masters and Doctorate in Education (EdD), with a 20 year career across the education sector, and was given the 2019 Prime Minister’s Excellence Award in Māori Education. Cadence contributed to the United Nations Indigenous Forum about Indigenous Education and is a Trustee with Tātai Aho Rau CORE Education. She believes education is a tool for empowerment and actively supports the integration of mātauranga Māori knowledge systems in all aspects of life.

Cadence is the Chief Executive Officer at Kāhui Hauora Tūmatanui o Aotearoa, Public Health Association of New Zealand (PHANZ), where she leads the development of public health policies and practices in Aotearoa to improve public health outcomes across vulnerable communities. PHANZ plays a critical role in advocating for health equity, disease prevention, health promotion, and the overall well-being of our population.

Cadence is committed to the prosperity of tāngata whenua and the care and protection of land and natural resources. ‘When the land is well the people are well.’ She advocates for sustainable land management practices rooted in Māori values of upholding the connection between land and people's well-being. Her passion for environmental conservation led to her involvement in various roles, including as an Independent RMA Commissioner, elected Marae Representative in Te Nehenehenui, Director on the  New Zealand Geographic Board - Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa and Director on the Tāmaki Regeneration Company Board. Cadence serves as the Chair of Te Huia and Rangiwherowhero Trust in the Waikato region, who are currently developing a papakāinga (village) on whānau land.

Cadence contributes as an active member of the Institute of Directors, the NZ Archaeological Association, the Auckland Astronomical Society, the Royal Society of New Zealand as an ECR Professional Member, and the New Zealand Geographical Society.

With a commitment to the well-being of Māori and Pacific communities and the preservation of nature, Cadence's career is focused on empowerment and sustainable development for communities to lead their whānau towards healing and well-being. She also led collaboration with the United Nations Space 4 Water team on water issues in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Cadence with her hoa-rangatira (spouse) are proud parents to four tamariki (children) and are grandparents to two mokopuna (grandchildren).
